I lugged my Nikon D5500 DSLR camera and a 35 mm lens on today's ride. I wanted to see how much of a pain it would be to carry and if the photos were significantly better than photos from my Pixel 4.
Carrying it wasn't bad. The strap would occasionally slide letting the camera off my back and around to my front. Might look into something like what Francis Cade uses. I carried the lightest lens I own, a 35mm fixed. There have been times when I would have liked to have had my 500mm lens to snap some wildlife photos but that lens is heavy and huge. Wouldn't be fun to carry on a bike.
With my untrained eye the photos from the Nikon aren't that much better than the Pixel 4. They are higher resolution. With my settings the Nikon photos are 24MP vs 9.1MP.
Overall taking the DSLR was fun and not that big of a deal. I may do it again sometime.
Today's weather was wonderful. Sunshine, temperatures in the 60's℉ and breezy. Good ride.
